The children had a fantastic day at Perlethorpe yesterday (18.1.18)! It was a lot of fun and the children learnt such a lot
from the experience. We started off by entering the school room where the children met the very strict warden who had
lots of the rules for the children to follow. In the classroom, the children were billeted, learning a lot about the experiences
of the children during WW2 who were evacuated from the cities. Some of the children in year 5 were happy and excited about their new roles, but I'm not sure the child who got the job as the housemaid's foot rubber or the child who ended up with the job of washing the pants of the other people in the house were so pleased!
We also looked inside an Anderson shelter, looked at a selection of artefacts in suitcases and completed a selection of
tasks outside, all about WW2.
Monday 13th November
I am really happy that I have managed to see so many parents for parents' evening over the last week or so. Thank
you to all the parents that managed to come into school for this.
We have just started our second topic - 'Pharaohs' - and I hope that your children are enjoying it and talking about it
at home with you.
We will soon be making our own canopic jars - so please continue to send in Pringle tubes for this task.
I am also really happy to tell you that the class jigsaw only has a few of the pieces remaining and so we are hopefully
heading for a class treat really soon. To earn pieces, the children need to continue to work well as a class and they
need to keep pushing their teamwork skills.
I would also like to congratulate the group of children who have received their bronze Dojo award and their pen
licence - I want these amazing successful outcomes to continue for our class. Well done Year 5!
Welcome to Year 5
Class teacher = Miss Colbourne
Class TA = Mrs Rafferty
Mrs Annia will also be working with the class, until her maternity leave
I feel like I will be seeing a lot of familiar faces this year, as I have taken a step from Year 4 to Year 5 with the children.
I hope that the children are ready for a move into Upper KS2 - I know it is going to take a little getting used to for me
Remember, if you need to talk to me about anything you can: book an appointment at the office, phone school, or see
me after school when you collect your child.
PE in Year 5 is on a Monday and a Wednesday, the children will need both their indoor and outdoor kits.
Our Topic this half term is 'Frozen Kingdom' and I am sure the children are really going to enjoy the Topic. Our
Titanic experience is happening on Tuesday 12th September and I am hoping the children are going to learn a lot
The children will be getting their first homework pack on Monday, all based on 'Frozen Kingdoms' - the homework
is going to be the same style as last year. We loved the results of last year's homework - some of the things the
children produced were fantastic! The hand in date for this homework is Friday 13th October.
I will be giving the children the introduction letter for the Dojo reward system - all of the children will be starting
from zero again this year, but I am sure it won't take long for them to start earning their points.
I will also be giving the children information about our new Times Table Rock Stars- this is a programme that
allows the children to strengthen their times table skills- which are vital to the Maths curriculum this year.
