Curriculum Overview

Curriculum

All year groups follow the National Curriculum (2014) for all subjects except Religious Education where we follow the Locally Agreed Syllabus for learning as recommended by Nottinghamshire County Council.

In Phonics starting in September 2017, we will be following ' Letters and Sounds' and children will be taught the phases according to their year group. For more information click the phonics link below.

We have a new English Lead joining us in September - Mr Webster and he will be supporting all staff in our new approach to the teaching of reading and writing as we will be implementing Pie Corbett's Talk 4 Writing approach across the school from Foundation Stage to Year 6.

The school uses a cross-curricular approach to teaching and learning.  This means that skills, knowledge and understanding across a range of subjects are brought together and form a topic.

The launch of our Cornerstones Curriculum for Topic lessons saw vast improvements in engagement of pupils in Foundation Subjects in 2016 so we will be continuing with this in 2017. Our teachers have reviewed what children covered and are ensuring that the year ahead is carefully planned for. Within the topics, children are able to practice and apply their reading, maths and English skills in other subject areas.
