Our first day at school

Summer 2

Do cows drink milk?

This is the title of our topic for the next half term. We will be visiting Stonebridge Farm in Nottingham to take in the sights, sounds and smells. We’ll observe the different farm animals, have a guided tour around the farm and hold some of the smaller farm animals. We will be reading stories that are set on a farm and information texts about farm animals.

Summer 1

What is a reflection?

This is the title of our topic for the first half of the Summer Term 2018. In this project, we’ll answer lots of intriguing questions about reflections. E.g. Why can I see myself in a puddle? How will our reflections change? We will be looking carefully in the mirror and our artistic skills will help us to sketch stunning self-portraits.

Spring 2

Why do ladybirds have spots?

We will be finding out about different mini-beasts, going on a mini-beast hunt and working together to create mini-beast hotels out in the woodland area. We will be exploring the life cycle of a butterfly. Here, the children will have the opportunity to observe all the different stages as they grow from an egg, to a caterpillar, wrapped up in a chrysalis to a beautiful butterfly.

The caterpillars have arrived!

Spring 1

Our topic this half term is...

What happens when I fall sleep?

We will be discussing and finding out what actually happens when we fall asleep, nocturnal animals, people who help us at night and will be comparing different patterns of stars that are called constellations. We have created a dark area for the children to explore! Our two main stories for Talk4write are ‘Peace at last’ and ‘Whatever Next!’

Foundation Stage One children have settled in well. Here are some of their first photographs!

Autumn 2

Our topic this half term is...

Are we there yet?

This topic will involve looking at different forms of transport. To help your child understand this topic more, you could talk about the different forms of transport you see and why people use a certain type of transport for either their journey or their job.

Autumn 1

Our Topic this half term is...

Why can't I have chocolate for breakfast?

To help your child understand this topic you could talk about what they have for  breakfast, why breakfast is important, discuss if it is healthy and if it’s not healthy why? Then ask your child, would it be healthy to have chocolate for breakfast?
